Antimicrobial Resistance [AMR]: 2 – The Mechanisms of Resistance

Antimicrobial resistance involves numerous different mechanisms, each one acting at levels within the microbe.

One such mechanism involves the rapidly mutating Multi-Drug Resistance [MDR] pump that traverses the bacterial envelope, which evolves to be able to specifically pump out antibiotics from within the organism, thereby making the organism resistant to the pharmacological effect of the drug.
